Omega 3 Fish Oil Deficiency
Omega 3 fatty acids belong to the group of essential fats, which means the body cannot produce them by itself and you have to provide them from external sources. The other group of fats that are essential are omega 6 fatty acid. However, in typical diets of western societies, there is already an overload of omega 6 fats and unfortunately a strong lack in omega 3's.
Scientific research and thousands of different studies have proved the numerous health benefits of omega 3's. They significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, lower blood pressure and triglyceride levels, omega 3's can help to prevent arthritis and even certain types of cancer, they are equally important for the development of the brain and the neurological system… and there are many other health benefits.
On the other hand, a lack of omega 3 fatty acids increases the risk for the diseases mentioned above. But how can you know if you have a lack of omega 3 fatty acids?
There are certain sign that might indicate an omega 3 fatty acid deficiency:
* Craving for fatty foods
* Candida infection
* Accumulation of ear wax
* Slow wound healing
* Sun-induced headaches from extended sun baths
* Cramps in your legs after long walks
* Thin/thick cracked heel calluses
* Chronic inflammations
* Fatigue
* Brittle fingernails
* Dry skin
* Inability to concentrate
* Low moods
To make sure your diet contains sufficient amounts of omega 3, it's recommended to eat fatty fish, such as salmon, herring or mackerel twice a week. If you prefer, you can also take omega 3 fish oil capsules to avoid omega 3 deficiency.
Other sources rich in omega 3's are flaxseed oil, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, spinach, broccoli and others.
