    Omega 3 Fatty Acid From Marine Algae

    Marine microalgae, or phytoplankton contain a wide range of fatty acids and amongst others, they are very rich in the following omega-3 fatty acids:

    * Alpha linoleic acid (ALA)
    * Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
    * Docosahexaenoic acid (DPA)

    Plant foods contain mainly ALA, which is converted into EPA and DHA in the body. The problem is, this conversion is not very efficient and older people or individuals with certain diseases might no longer be capable to perform this conversion at all.

    Fatty cold water fish is one of the richest sources of omega 3. However, fish stocks are declining and an alternative source of EPA and DHA might be needed in the near future.

    The microalgae is rich in all 3 types of omega 3 fatty acids which makes it an ideal candidate as provider of healthy omega 3's.
