What can you do to reduce inflammation and CPR levels in your blood?
* Your nutrition plays an important role and you should make sure your diet contains sufficient amounts of anti-inflammatory omega 3's. Omega 3 fatty acids in food sources, such as salmon, mackerel, herring, walnuts, flax seed oil and others control hormones called prostaglandins that are responsible for the inflammation process.
* While you should increase your intake of omega 3 fats, you should also try to reduce your consumption of omega 6 fats. Omega 6 fatty acids are known to cause inflammation. Sources rich in omega 6 fats are corn, cottonseed, safflower and sunflower oils as well as processed foods. Rather choose olive and canola oils.
* Reduce your consumption of meat and dairy products. A diet that includes too many saturated fats from meat and dairy products increases CRP levels.
* Another study showed that eating too much protein and not enough carbohydrate increased CRP by 61%.
* Avoid foods with a high glycemic index. The glycemic index is a measure of how fast a food breaks down into glucose. Foods with a high glycemic index such as potatoes, white rice, sugar and highly processed cereals increase blood glucose and inflammation.
* Eat enough fiber. Studies showed that dietary fiber was associated with lower levels of CRP. Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits and whole grains
