    Elevated cholesterol (something over ~ 240) can lead to an increased risk of heart disease. Changes in your diet can help you to decrease cholesterol, however, dietary changes are not always sufficient. Taking nutritional supplements, such as omega 3 fish oil capsules might be a good idea to further decrease blood cholesterol.

    Omega 3 fatty acids are known to reduce cholesterol and equally important, they also reduce inflammation, which also increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Cold water fish, like mackerel, salmon, herring and others are the richest source of omega 3's and that's why fish should be an integral part of your diet. If you don't like to eat fish, you can also supplement your diet with fish oil capsules.


    Here are some tips that should help you to lower your cholesterol level:

    * Increase your intake of foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Examples are: Cold water fish, walnuts, flaxseed oil and green leafy vegetables.

    * Eliminate fried foods.

    * Eat more fruits and vegetables.

    * Reduce consumption of sugar and white flour.

    * Eat fish 2 - 3 times a week. Have it backed and not fried in oil.

    * Choose healthy oils, like olive oil or walnut oil.

    * Add oats and oatmeal to your diet - they tend reduce cholesterol.

    * Eat more green vegetables, like broccoli, spinach, lettuce, and green beans.
