Omega 3 Fish Oil Pills
Omega 3 has numerous health benefits and over the last few years it became sort of a miracle product, being able to cure almost any disease. Quite naturally, lots of different omega 3 supplements, like omega 3 fish oil pills and others popped up on the market and were heavily promoted.
But careful, this doesn't necessarily mean that everyone should take omega 3 fish oil pills. In most cases it's preferable to get omega 3's by supplementing your diet with cold water fish, flax seed oil, walnuts and other products.

People who already suffer from a coronary heart disease:
The AHA recommends a daily dose of ~1 g of omega 3's, preferably from fish. But this would mean that people in this group would have to eat fish every day. And it takes about 3 ounces of salmon to get that dose and even 12 ounces of canned tuna.
Another problem is also that fish may contain mercury and because of that you should limit your weekly intake to 12 ounces. So to get the recommended dose of omega 3's, people in this group should consider omega 3 fish oil pills for days when they are not eating fish.
People with arthritis, psoriasis or auto-immune disorders:
Omega 3 fatty acids can help to relieve the inflammatory symptoms of auto immune diseases and they might help to reduce joint pain and arthritis. For people in this group, clinical studies suggest up to 3 g of omega 3 a day.
People with high triglycerides:
Omega 3 fatty acids help to lower triglycerides and so reduce the risk of heart diseases. The AHA recommends 2 to 4 grams (under the care of a physician) a day from supplements such as omega 3 fish oil pills for people with high triglycerides.
The following groups shouldn't take omega 3 fish oil supplements:
* Those with a weakened immune system: Large doses (more than 3 g a day) of fish oil may suppress the immune system.
* People with bleeding disorders: The decreased ability of the blood to clot leads to an increased risk of a hemorrhagic stroke
* People with diabetes: Large doses of omega 3 can increase glucose levels.
To sum it up: Omega 3 has many health benefits, but not everyone should "blindly" take omega 3 fish oil pills. For most people, the better choice would be to decrease their intake of "bad" fats (saturated fatty acids) and to supplement them with highly unsaturated fats and products rich in omega 3's (ALA, EPA and DHA).
